Remembering Correctly the 6 Day War

As June 5 approaches, anti-Israel groups and much of the media in the UK and Europe look like they will be putting the stress on "occupation."

No one under 55 remembers, and most others have forgotten, that Israel did not choose to go to war in 1967, and did not fight in order to gain territory.

A Web site has been set up by a group of volunteers in the UK -www.sixdaywar.co.uk. We have no connection to any organization. We have aimed to show the background to the war, the underlying and immediate causes and have taken information from people involved and from reports, maps and photos of the time.

The Web site is now probably the biggest on-line resource on the Six Day War and we hope it will be helpful for journalists, students, historians or anyone interested in researching the event.

Viable Palestinian State?

Little has changed since Lawrence of Arabia struggled to unite warring bands (today's militias) in the struggle against the Turks ("At least 15 killed during factional fighting," May 16). The unity did not last too long.

These constant clashes in Gaza with the tragic loss of life point only to one major problem: The people of the Palestinian Authority are not candidates for statehood at this time and should seek a confederation with one of the Arab states in the region to assist them to create the internal security they desperately need and to bring some kind of normality to their lives.

Possibly after a generation or two, when calm returns and life becomes livable, thoughts can turn to an independent region which could mature into a state alongside Israel

Lighting up an Israeli Home

Israel is getting HOT HOT HOT.... yes I refer to the emerging consequences of the Winograd report, but also simply its coming into summer time... no longer do we need those winter lighting requirements burning up our electric... for those we can wait till later in the year.

For now we need to focus on keeping cool (in our political views and in our homes)... our air conditioning units are being given their annual service, filters being cleaned and gas pressure fixed. We're also rummaging around our storage rooms for our fans to dust off ready for maximum summer use. Its also a good time of year for barbecuing so getting our garden forecast lighting ready and renewed is a big focus.

Lighting is important in all homes, especially Israeli ones, not just a source of illumination but also of spirtitual illumination so get your lighting looking good this year.

Finding Love in Israel

After Israeli (or during) Independence day, the country sees its annual spike in engagement announcements and wedding plans. Its the period of time the country reflects on life and those singletons look forward to the year in anticipation of finding Mr / Mrs Right.

Many Israelies turn to an internet dating site to find true love. Many have used these services and successfuly found their soul mate.

For Jews there are not a large selection of an internet dating site, since the community itself is small (every Jew in the world could live in New York and there would still be space for some evangelists!

Extra income for Life

Once in a while an effective an online Get Rich Quick scheme grabs my eye. This one, is just that. A friend of mine emailed me the link with the subject 'this is not spam'.... my first thought, this is spam !

It took a few days to watch the free movie, and then i immediately signed up... it costs nothing to join and already i'm earning a few bucks...and i've not done a thing yet....
