I was looking for a cultural trip and spent hours searching the web and visiting my local high street travel agents for a good deal. A friend told me about 'EasytoBook.com' who have thousands of nice, clean and well discounted Amsterdam hotel rooms.
The cool thing is they dont charge any reservation and they had a great (and well pictured) choice of over 200 Amsterdam hotels ranging from 1 to 5 stars deluxe.
