Kofi Annan the Mediator

In an attempt to avoid going out like his predecessor, Kofi Annafn is preparing to act as a mediator for the release of kidnapped Israeli soldiers.

"The only thing that I insisted on is that if I'm going to use my good offices, then my mediator should be the only mediator," he said. "There must be one mediator and effective channel of communication." Annan said he would not announce the mediator's name to allow him to work quietly.

Kofi Annan has done little to help bring peace to the world since the out break of the War on Terror almost 5 years ago to the day.  He now has 3 months and counting to make an impact.  One might say meeting terrorist leaders Ahmadinejad and Assad this week is counter productive.  One might say he's staking his reputation on not being made to look a fool.

I'm reminded by the infamous handshake between Tony Blair and Yasser Arafat shortly before the world came to realise his open terrorist preferences.

Kofi... stop appeasing and start hard talking... and when the hard talk finishes, lets see some action.  We dont have the luxury of time when it comes to rogue regimes building up arsenals of weapons.
